what year, what carbs? CVCarbs need the air filter in and airbox sealed or the rpm's will go up and down.

83 gs 1100, yes they are cv. ill put the intake together and try again. hope this does it because its a bitch to remove the airbox to tinker with the carbs.

(short) A: that depends on where they are set.

(long) A: You do not use the mixture screws to adjust the idle speed. When fine-tuning the carbs, you should start with the screws out about three full turns. Then, when the bike is warmed up, slowly turn each one in until you hear the highest idle speed. If the engine speed does not increase, it will certainly decrease after a bit. When you hit that point, back up about 1/8 turn, move to the next carb. When you have done all the carbs, go back, check them again, to make sure that is the "sweet spot". Now, any further changes to idle speed should be done with the IDLE SPEED ADJUSTER, which is the large knob between and below carbs 2&3.

            Hi,

You also need an air filter that's very lightly oiled. You will probably have to re-adjust the idle after installing one. It's probably running a little lean without an air filter.

i was planning on putting a paper filter in, i havent even put the air filter box on yet. I dont remember having open intake as effecting it so much on past bikes ive had, but ive never had as muscular of a bike as this.

The Air Box on my 1980 GS1000 is a pain to get on and off too. But CV Carbs are very picky about the amount of air being sucked in. You can't get anything adjusted right without the complete system on and air tight. If you do get it to run without it, after you put it all on it will run like crap. I learned this the hard way. thanks , ill do it the right way. Is there any other air filter that will fit in the air box so i dont have to wait to order yet another part? Some other bike's air filter that is in stock and fits in there?
