    Major fuel in the airbox on 77 750

    I got the bike last week and it ran perfect. It was cheap because the PO was not very bright and broke an exhaust bolt off in the head. I got the bolt issue squared away and a proper seat for the exhaust. Put everything back together and it was flooding as if a carb float was stuck.

    Fuel was really pouring out of the airbox. I pulled the airbox off and it started and ran okayish and no fuel came backward from any of the carbs. I put the airbox back on and it did the same thing again - fuel pouring from the airbox. It will start and run strong with the head breather tube disconnected from the airbox but won't idle very well. If you connect the breather tube, it pours fuel from the airbox.

    I noticed there is no filter inside the airbox - I expected a filter of some sort. All I have is a screen.

    Anyone know what's happening?

    Best place to get an air filter?

    Also - no fuel smell to the oil. Oil and filter are fresh. The valves are adjusted properly.

    I have no idea if the petcock is stock but it looks old and it leaks a drop or two every now and then.

      Also - petcock does not pour fuel. It stops when the bike stops.

        look on ebay for a filter. i found a paper one for mine for 15. as opposed to suzuki which wants 50 for one. regading you prob, theres better qualed people here for that , but it got to be some sort of float issue.

          Also - I know, I should craft an all-inclusive post but these things are just coming to me - can I just clean up the spark plugs from fuel fouling? They are probably fouled at least a little as I ran it to a complete flood out (stall due to too much fuel) twice with fuel pouring out of the airbox.

            Yes, you can clean them. I normally blow them out with an air hose, brush them with a wire brush, then clean the contact points with a points file. After rechecking the gap, they should be ready to go.
            I used to bake them when I rode 2-strokes, since they had a tendency to carbon up from the oil.

              Thanks.

              I pulled the carbs and broke the bowl off number 4. The inboard float is disintegrating.

              Where is the best place to get a complete carb rebuild kit?
