    Screwed?

I was just about finished cleaning the carbs when I got to the number 4 carb and found this "little" issue with the pilot screw.

Its pretty much stripped. Looks like either the PO drilled too far and removed too much material from the pilot screw or just broke some of the meat out with the screwdriver... its bad enough that I can't get any bite on it with any of my flat heads.

Am I screwed? Is this an easy fix? HELP! haha

    Thank you for your time

    Oh, that's not pretty.

All I could suggest is a fine drill bit, a little Ezy-out and a bucketful of patience.

Are these pilot air screws replaceable?

Just a suggestion... get a dremmel tool with the wand attachment.. use the smallest diamond tip and some cutting oil and slowly cut in a new slot a little deeper than the old one...then back it out with a screw driver.

Can't believe you think the carb cleaning is "just about finished". Please read though the links in my signature.

BTW, chop down the carb tunnel with a dremmel cut off disc, then cut a new slot in the screw. Use PB Blaster or similar and soak the screw, and use a heat gun and heat up the carb body good and hot. Do it a couple of times with lots of spray and the screw will likely loosen right up.

Nessism. Truth be told I haven't even started cleaning the number 4 carb. I cant get the pilot air screw out. So the first picture was not accurate

              Behold!

I feel like I'm on the home stretch haha Thanks for the suggestions guys please keep them coming.

PS I AM doing this from your (Nessism) tutorial http://www.mtsac.edu/~cliff/storage/gs/Mikuni_BS-CV_Carburetor_Rebuild_Tutorial.pdf

Thank you for doing this awesome tutorial by the way.

Gah! You are faster than I am Nessism. I will give the "re-slotting" a shot.

                Thank you guys!

Yes try the littlest bit and dremel the slot a bit deeper. also heat the tower up with a propane torch. then a few drops of oil to soak in for a while.. then if it does move, go in and out to work the oil in deeper and slowly back it out. Once it is out you can then refresh the slot in the jet much better.

When you put the new jets in, put a litle drease around the orings to prevent this in the future and it makes turning them for tunuing the carbs much easier. If you didnt do this on the other 3 I suggest you do it.

Ok well turns out the threads are gummed up so I tried to chase the threads to no avail. The threads are pretty much flat. The PO had someone working on this thing that has less of a clue than I do apparently.

Soooo looking to buy a BS34? #4 CV carb in working order (no stripped screws lol). Numbers on the side of my carb say 49150-0025 I believe. Don't know if that helps. Bike is a 1980 GS1000g

Never had to buy a carburetor...

If anyone has an extra #4 (far right side if you are sitting on the bike) laying around I would very much appreciate a PM naming your price.

This has turned into quite the project

                      Thanks for your time guys
