    GS550\1980 start problem

All carburetors cleaned and rebuilt. Bike will not start with choke. Will attempt to start with choke off. When finally start to run backfiring. What can cause such symptoms. I know I need to replace one of carburetor boot. What else?
    Thanks

Is the airbox on? Did you bench synch the carbs before putting them on the bike? Are you sure fuel is getting into each carb? Does it at least turn over when you push the starter button?

We'll need a little more detail about what you did before hand to really help diagnose them but I would start there.

The air box is on. Everything is installed as suppose to . Bike sometimes start with choke off, but never with choke pulled out. When finally starts after a few attempts runs Ok. The problem is just cold start.
      Thanks

When you cleaned the carbs, did you follow the procedures outlined here as far as dipping each body and metal bits for 24 hours each? Did you replace all of the orings? Sounds like something isn't quite cleaned correctly.

Also, did you adjust the valves yet? That will cause some problems with starting.

Remember this bike is pretty old so you can't take shortcuts with their maintenance.
