Hardware for 1981 GS850 carbs
So thanks to the link from Basscliff I made some good progress on the carb teardown. I I bought some carb dip and carb cleaner spray. I didn't listen when it came to being patient with some of the screws. I had penetrant for the tough ones but I tried too hard on one of the screws that hold the choke rail on and I stripped the top right off. I know I can cut a slot in it with a dremel tool but if I go to put it all back together shouldn't I really replace it? And some of the other screws are looking pretty aweful but some don't look too bad. Does anyone know what type screws I would need to replace the choke rail screws and if possible all the hardware for the carbs? If the gaskets don't look too bad is it okay to re-use them or is it best to just replace? Probably easiest to go to a dealer? Could I go with the allen heads on the carbs like i'm doing on the intake boots? Thanks for all the help guys. -

Hi,
Sure, feel free to replace broken stuff with allen head screws and bolts. If you can get some heat on the bolts they might come out a little easier. A mixturue of 50/50 acetone and ATF is just about the best penetrant you can use.
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff

Okay. ATF? I heard PB blaster is good. That true? As far as the dip goes, I shouldn't need to take the needle out of the slide right? I know that you don't dip the diaphragm. I'm putting pods and after market exhaust so I need to rejet anyway. What jets should I be keeping? I know the main jets will be changed with the pods but are there any I can re-use? I've learned so much already and I only have 2 carbs apart and haven't even dipped them yet.
