GS450 Hex shaped main Jets (is this stock?)

I recently picked up an 82 GS450t, and I am new to the site (and this model of bike) So i've been reading random posts to educate myself. One thing I noticed, is it seems the main jets are usually round in shape?
    Mine are hex shaped.

Yes, usually they are large round mains

      Welcome to the forums!

First off, are you sure it's an '82 model? If the manufacture date is late '82, good chance it's actually an '83 model.

If it really is an '82, then you actually want the small round mains...

I just looked at the title, and it says 1982 GS450T
I don't know the manufacture date, I'm at work now, I can look when I get home. So 1983 GS450t came with Hex shaped main Jets?

I'm not sure what the 83 onwards run, but I know the 80 - 82 are small round. I was just thinking if it was 83 then it could explain why it's different...

I just looked at the manufacture date, and it a little hard to see, but the year is definitely 1981, and the title says 1982, so not an 83 for sure.
I bought it from a young kid, he was 17, and said he in turn bought it from a 75 year old harley guy. I asked the kid if he ever did work on the carbs, and he said "I have no idea how carbs work" So i'm guessing he didn't swap the jets. Also, upon inspection at home, I realized that the air box had been drilled numerous times, it was pretty much fubar. So...It seems someone drilled the airbox to shyt, and put in some hex shaped jets, but never even uncapped the air adjust screws? he he he...the secrets of old motorcycles.

The only bikes I remember having hex mains were my 2 stroke dirt bikes. And I havent seen a set of CV carbs with anything other than large round mains.
I remember drilling big holes in my Yamaha 400 airbox, it allowed me to go up 2 or 3 sizes of main jet.

                  You have the PO curse...

As long as those carbs are stock, they should have small round mains.

Have a look at Flaming Chainsaws' 450 carb rebuild guide on BassCliff's site he just posted and you will see...
