    smoothbore venturi block

Can anyone confirm what kind of metal the venturi block in 29 or 33mm smoothbores is made from?

I think it's zinc but can not confirm that.

An easy way to prove whether it's zinc or Alu would be to run current through it. If it throws a shower of sparks, it's zinc. If not, it's prolly Alu. We used to do that in metal shop with stacks of pennies. Stick em in the spot welder. When it burned through the copper shell to the zinc it rained sparks like 4th of July sparkelers.
I'm not positive it's the correct acid, but in chemistry we shaved the edge off of pennies and dropped them in what I think I remember being hydrochloric acid. It would disolve the zinc inside and leave just the copper shell. Kind of neat.
