    Carb Storage?

    What's up Gang?

    I'm about to start my gs1100e rebuild. I wanted know what to do with carbs when I take them off? I was wondering if I should run some stabils gas solution through them first to prevent them from gumming up. Basicly I'm conserened about the bike starting when I put the carbs back on. I need help.

    Hi,

    I'd make sure the carbs are dry. Take the float bowls off and blow them out with compressed air. Then reassemble, wrap in a towel, and store in a cool, dry place.

      Have you replace the O-rings lately? If not, sounds like a good time to do so. If you have, I'd drain all the fuel out and worry not.

        When I take off the float bowls would it be wise to take out the jet and blow it out with compressed air also?

          If the O-rings have been replaced recently you shouldn't have problems sticking the carbs into storage. Blowing them out sounds like a good idea but I wouldn't remove any jets to do so. If the O-rings are old they are going to dry out when the carbs go into storage and may leak when you put the carbs back on. I'd go though them and replace the O-rings before installing them.             I would go a bit further and use carb cleaner first to clean any possible pre-existing sludge. Then blow them out with compressed air, install new float bowl gaskets, and call it a day.

              Hey guys,

              I took the float bowls off and cleaned them out. I notice that the piolet jet rubber seal was missing on the number 1 carb but the others had one. Before I decided to do the rebuild I was having a problem with that carb leaking gas. Could that be why it was leaking fuel through the #1 carb?

                  that could posibly have been your problem , As to storing them I generally drain the fuel out and spray the insides ,floats, jets ect. with WD 40 just to keep some moisture, oil based in them may help preserve the orings also not positive though works for me. I do the same thing on my sleds every year seems to work
