      ad says its for an 81 but the lines face the opposite direction

        The only petcocks that are identical to your stock one are from the 1980-1981 GS850G, and the 1980-1981 GS1000G.

                That is true, and even the styles of the tubes are different as in the case of the GS1000, sometimes you can change them out, I had one that I couldn't for fear it would break, so I learned to live with it, then I found out that for the model year the tubes were different and I had the correct filter tube already in place. Sometimes I get lucky.

                  '79 gs1000 petcock from z1

                  Hello , I recently got a '79 gs1000l , with leaking petcock. This forum had the link to z1 , I saw and ordered a replacement not OEM ,should know in a few days if it works. I'll post my results as soon as I can.
