amount of fuel in carb

i have seen everybody using the clear tube method to check fuel level but i dont have the tool to do it so i drained one of my carb bowls into a measuring cup and it has 55ml. i know that this is too low, but how much should it have?

The volume of fuel in the bowl will depend on the size of the bowl and the float height.

The size of the bowl is going to be different from one size carb to another.
In other words the VM22 carbs on the 550s are going to hold less than the VM26 carbs on the 1000s.
Same thing, of course, with the BS32 carbs on the 550-850 bikes, the BS34s on the 1000 and 1100s and the BS36s on the 1150.

damn i feel like an idiot. i forgot to say what bike i have.. its a 1981 GS550L with the BS32s on it. i know that most people wouldnt have this information of the volume of gas but i figured id give it a try because on this site it seems at least some one has the answer

Steve, some (most?) VM22s have the same float bowls as VM26s / VM28s and where they are different it's only a slight change in the external shape as far as I can see. So 550 carb float bowls can be swapped on to 750s, 850s and 1000s.

I have never checked the BS carbs but I wouldn't be surprised if there was some crossover there as well.

Thanks for the info. I don't do much with VM carbs, so was just guessing that the smaller carbs would be ... well ... smaller.

If I remember correctly the float bowls for the BS32s that I have at home will not work on BS34s.
I know for a fact that the caps and diaphragms are different, just not so sure about the bowls.
