    Did I make a mistake?

    OK, so last week when I got my Morgan carbtune, I synced my carbs without plugging the petcock vac line. Got them all nice and even too. Do I need to go back and do it again with the vac line plugged?

    Ride the bike up past 7K rpms.( or Rev it)

    If you get vibration, the sync is likely off or valves need to be serviced.
    If it's smooth, you're good to go.

      Hi,

      That's a good question. I'm surprised it worked well enough to sync your carbs with the vacuum line open. But I agree with Mr. 1_v8_merc, run it up to 6000 rpm or so on the road. If the mirrors are still relatively clear then I guess you're OK.

            Why do you need to ride the bike at all?

            Just try to run it at idle. If it runs rough, the carbs are NOT synchronized.

            By the way, the difference in throttle opening is much larger at idle than it is at highway speeds.

            Let's say that the carbs need to be opened 5% to run at idle. (I have no idea what the actual number is, I am just using this as an example.) Because of the unplugged vacuum line, you had to turn that carb down to about 1% open to match the others. When you plug that vacuum "leak", three of your carbs will still be at 5% and one will be at 1%. Now, when you get them to half throttle to get down the road, three of them are going to be at 55% and one at 51% (almost as much). Not much of a difference. It's still just four points different, but at idle, that one carb is only open one-fifth as much as the others, instead of "almost as much".

            That is why I am more concerned about synchronizing my carbs at idle, not at "highway speeds".

              I'd resync. You just dumped $100 on a sync tool.

                Re do the job. I made the same mistake of not plugging the vacuum line. The crazy readings I got made me think and I realized I forgot to plug the line. IT makes a big difference

                  It'll have to wait for me to get the better adapters from z1. Its pretty smooth now. But I tend to be a little "retentive" about things on this bike... Guess I need the practise anyway.

                    I would, you basically synched them with a vacuum leak. Might not make a difference but Id sure want to find out for sure

                          Drill hole down center of screw
                          Use copper tubing (sold at hardware stores) and glue into place with epoxy
                          Install small O-ring (not shown in photos)

                            Thanks. I appreciate all of the input.

                            I was thinking I was going to redo it, part of me was hoping the consensus would be that it makes no difference, so long as I got them all in line. Then I could have talked myself out of it.

                            Oh well, I'm all over redoing it...

                              Ed, still no pics!!

                              I installed adapters on each inlet tube and have rubber plugs on them, ala Kawasaki Z1. Makes synching real easy, no more removal of hex screws and installing adapters to do the synch.
