rough idle
i've just recently colotuned and synched the carbs. i've always had touble trying to get the carbs tuned. that is until my colortune arrived. still having a bit of trouble with a rough idle. if i idle the bike at 1250 to 1300 she runs fine. if i try lowering it to 1100 it will become fairly rough with the needle usually jumping between 1150 and 950. can't figure out why. colortune still looks good at those rpms.Tags: None

You could have a minor air leak somewhere, hose, airbox seal, exhaust..ect.. and although the colourtune is great a lot of people swear that it gets things close but not perfect. Plug chops and fastest idle can sometimes improve things, but I like you like my colourtune. As well your tack may be off slightly.Rob

definately no leaks. everything is brand new and i've double checked everything. i agree the tach could be off. but u can definately hear the rough idle. no popping through the exhaust or the intake though. just sounds rough. almost like a random miss. i still have to double check my timing but i wouldn't think that it would cause an issue only at those rpms.

Valves done too? Have you resynced since the colortune? Dont know if the adjusting would require a new sync..but throwing the theory up in the air...MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

carbs are synched. valves are good. tried the highest idle for a year before getting the colortune and could never see or hear enough of a difference to tell whether i was on or off. i know it won't hurt it, but it just bugs me when something is supposed to do one thing and it does something else. i can sometimes be a perfectionist.
