gsx 550 carb problem
right all, my gsx550ef is firing on three only, no 1 is mis firing, took the plug out tonight and its sparking well albeit slightly dry, so pilot lines must be choked, is there a rebuild kit for the twin carbs setup for this model, as it runs two carbs into four cylinders with a twin manifold for each carb, cheers jonTags: None

But, what you need is a good cleaning, not a "rebuild"
Have you cleaned your carbs per the tutorial??1978 GS 1000 (since new)
1979 GS 1000 (The Fridge, superbike replica project)
1978 GS 1000 (parts)
1981 GS 850 (anyone want a project?)
1981 GPZ 550 (backroad screamer)
1970 450 Mk IIID (THUMP!)
2007 DRz 400S
1999 ATK 490ES
1994 DR 350SES

It's those twin double bore carbs that none of us have worked on (well someone here will have done).
Same principles apply though - no need for a rebuild kit just a bloody good clean. Or try the old Redex trick - it might work.
If you need bits (o rings etc) give Andy at NRP a ring:

Those carbs are just plain old mikunis in a configuration that allows for a narrower rack.
Evverything in there is a standard part.
Needles are not available OEM.
Dynojet makes a kit to go with a K&N filter.
The emulsion tubes probably have a thing varnish inside them so use a dowl and knock them out.
Gentle spritz with carb cleaner will indicate which circuits may be clogged the most.
Unlike many on here I am not a religious zealot who believes in the full immersion in carb cleaner. No need to splite the rack and all that if you can coax em clean.
Emulsion tubes are bloody filthy no doubt.
Get all the internal o-rings replaced Robert Barr has a kit that works. Get the intake manifold rings while you are at it.
Be extremely wary of the plastic floats!!

The US only got the GS designated bikes while most of the rest of the world received the GSX so yea, yours should be the same.Cowboy Up or Quit. - Run Free Lou and Rest in Peace

According to Rapidray you can't get K&Ns for these anymore.
You need to a bit careful with the GS / GSX thing Jon as our GS 8 valves ran on a couple of years after the US bikes (82 or 83 I think they finally finished here - GS550EZ was the last one), and ran concurrently with the GSX 16 valves. I think the US 8 valve stopped (GS550ET) when the US 16 valve GS bikes came out. May have run on Kat form but the US guys will know that better than me79 GS1000S

GS and GSX are the same bikes for the 83-86 550.
Dynojet sell a stage 1 and 3 kit commonly available on ebay.
K&N also sells a filter but it is the oval that fits the oem airbox.
You can take the stock airbox and hack it so it is simply a mount for the higher flowing filter sans restrictions.
But then its about 64 HP for the bike so why even bother going beyond a stage 1 kit and the filter?
