Too many variables for anyone to give you the answer you want to hear. Even if we know what bike and pipe there are other things like altitude that we can't account for. A jet kit will be your best friend if you go through with this. Otherwise you can spend almost as much as a kit cost before you're done buying jets.

my apologies for my lack of attention to detail. I have a 1982 GS450T and I live in hot sticky South Florida. I am a long way from doing this, or so I think but I am looking to learn a little while I can.

Can't answer your question of course as it all depends on so many things as stated earlier.
I can however tell you this... with K&N pods and a custom one off exhaust, I'm still on the same size pilot jets as stock but I know that lifting my stock needles one notch has got them a little on the rich side. Not sure how my mains are yet.
I have a Gunson Colortune waiting for me to get some time to check the fueling properly, just haven't had the time yet.
Dynojet don't make a stage 3 kit for our 450's, only a stage 1 which is a bit useless for me. I'd never seen the name Factory before but a quick search shows me they don't appear to have anything for our bikes.
A member on here Rapidray sells a set of four needles that should work in our carbs that may be the way to go, and if you can hook up with another 450 owner you could go halves in the needles so you have two each... I haven't checked any details with him yet other than that he sells them and they should be suitable for our carbs.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

In your case, the HP gain with stacks is so minimal there's no good reason to choose them over pods. I'm guessing under 1 HP gain and that would ONLY be when the bike is operating at it's sweetspot in the higher rpm's. You would likely notice zero difference.
Your motor needs the air coming in to be filtered. You'll be much better off with pods.And on the seventh day,after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

Actually I looked a bit further out of curiousity and Dynojet used to sell a stage 3 kit for our bikes, not a stage 1. It was the E3305.
I might shoot an email off to our local distributor to see if I can still get my hands on one... that would be much easier!1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

There's usually not much difference between Stage 1 and 3. If the needles are the same between the two that's the main thing you need. They usually give you at least two sets of mains and the only other difference might be the position of the clips on the needles. If your local people can't get the kit for you and you can get it here in the States I'd be happy to forward the kit to you if DJ won't.

I came across the PDF for it last night but can't find it again this morning and neglected to save it so I'm not sure what's in it now... it might even be half of one of the bigger bikes that run the same carbs so I'll keep digging until I find it again.
It looks like they never actually did a stage 1 kit for these, just the stage 3, so I'm not sure where I recalled seeing a stage 1 now. They do stage 1 and 3 for the '83 models but they're completely different carbs unfortunately.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie
