I have a modified G airbox on my gs1000 with slide carbs. I cut out the front and welded tubes slightly bigger than carb inlets, made up rubber gasket tubes a squirt of WD40 and it squeezes together. 10 years its been like that no problems after i jetted up after a 1085 upgrade. And a storage box sits where the air filter was.My bikes 79 GS1000 1085 checked and approved by stator the GSR mascot :eagerness: and 77 GS750 with 850 top end, GS850g, and my eldest sons 78 GS550, youngest sons GS125. I am fairly certain that this '78 box is still kicking around in my shop...
As Frank was doing a Cooley restoration, and planning on keeping the bike, not flipping it,
he was able to pry the shinny one from my hands.
I might even still have a filter box (no lid), with coupler/clamps, to go with it if needed.

Thanks for the offer Dan, but based on the first few posts in this thread, I think the ports for the carbs on the 78 and 79s were a little smaller then the 80's.
UK GS Nut, so was the front different, or a different spot that touches the frame? Seems to me that since the carbs were the same, you wouldn't need to change the front of it, and it something hits the frame, I could just modify the box to go around that obstruction.
Thanks guys

Well I could do that, but I hadn't really looked much at that option due to the fact that I usually see those new boots and clamps bringing a good amount by themselves, then I'd need front box from an older one, then Id also have to find the back section of the airbox assembly. If I could modify a front piece from an 81, that'd be all I need.
