    newbie question: Pods and Jets.

I know this question is over asked, but I dont know how to find it.

I have a 77' or 78' 550 (dont know really anything else) that I recently removed the carbs from, and I am going to be putting the K&N pods on them. Everything else is stock. What size main jets are required now, and is there any other carb parts (or anything) I will need?

For now, my only goal is just to get it running, do a basic rebuild/inspection of the carbs and reroute the electronics/battery leaving that big open space in the frame. One step at a time.

I apologize because this question has to be in here somewhere.

      Greetings and Salutations!!

      Hi Mr. GoBlue,

It's difficult to give you exact jet sizes because every situation is different. As a general rule, with just the pod filters and everything else stock, you can expect to go up 3-6 sizes on the main jets, maybe one size on the pilot jet, and one or two notches up on the needle. There are tuning tip links on my little website. Read up on the "plug chop" procedure so that you can read your plugs to ensure the proper mix at all throttle openings.

On my website you'll also find guides on how to search the forum and post pictures.

Now let me dump a TON of information on you and share some GS lovin'.

I just stopped by to welcome you to the forum in my own, special way.

If you're going to put pods on your 550 measure everything very carefully. Many (most?) pods won't fit on the outside carbs as the gap between the carb inlet and the frame isn't big enough.
