seized pilot screw

seized pilot screw
Hi all, just bought a set of secondhand carbs for my gsx550, all good except a seized air screw , all 3 others ok, i can move it , but only a small amount, it seems very tight and am at risk of burring out the slot, would it be ok to apply some heat bearing in mind the alloy bodies, any solutions ?? cheers jonTags: None

The acetone eats the corrosion and the atf lubes...I personally just heat the crap out of them and the a drop of oil..usuually come right out.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

3 in 1 professional penetrating oil (metallic orange spray can). Halfords, B&Q etc have it and it works. Plus get the best fitting screwdriver you have and work it out gently - take loads of time. if it's moving it'll come out.79 GS1000S

You can reuse the screw by taking a dremel and thin blade and just recutting the slot a slight bit deeper. File the edges smooth again along with the top of the screw..theres plenty of meat above the shafts for the needles to be reslotted.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Well ! What a job ive had today, the s/hand set of carbs i bought arrived and i took the float bowls off to discover new jets etc, i thought this looks good, then i turned them over to find an air screw seized solid that i managed to get out by drilling and driving a torx bit into the hole and unscrewing, then i noticed one of the choke plungers had snapped off in the bore , so same again, but unfortunately the choke tip broke off and slipped into the hole it goes into where there is no way of retrieving it ! the upshot of all of this is i can make a decent pair of carbs using my originals and one carb from the other set !!! what a ball ache this has been
