This thing must be a low SN bike. What I did find on google was some info about the press release of the bike in July of 76 and the build date is August on this thing so it must have been in the first batch....

I concur, my '77 gs400 does not have orings, just a lip built into the boots and nothing on the spacer. For my model, it is the boots from '78 and later that have separate orings. When i had mine off, the "ring" were pretty flat but the rest the rubber still seemed good, so I used some of the carb boots gaskets (go inbetween the head and the spacers)- placed between the boot and the spacers. Seems to work well so far.

The other thought I have had is that Amal 11/2s have an O ring but no recessed groove for it - you just 'stick' the O ring on with grease when you plumb the carbs back on. I guess that would work as well on here.79 GS1000S

I'm ditching all the cruiser stuff, got some stock pipes for it, gonna get a new seat, etc.
I'm interested in the old pipes if you just want to get rid of them.

Apologies for helping you ruin a boot. Some folks have had success cutting the epoxy around the plug wires at the coils, pulling the existing wires out, and installing new wires, and gluing them in with silicone. I have not personally tried it.sigpic Too old, too many bikes, too many cars, too many things

Verde - $30 plus shipping and they are yours...that will cover my cost of buying the stock ones
850 - no worries, they probably needed to be replaced anyway, that just gave me a good reason to. And thanks for the tip about the plug wires
