    "New" Petcock looks different

My petcock for my '81 450L went so I found a "new" one. The mounting holes match up. The hoses are in the right place. The problem is that the old one has Prime, Run, and Reserve...

And the "New" one just has Reserve and On.

Will this one work? I'm guessing that they're both the same except for one having a "Prime" position...right?

Doesn't fit at all. I have no idea what this came from.

Letting the camera focus on the petcock would help, can't read it. Doesn't moving the handle to the other side from reserve act as prime? Not having prime would be annoying unless you ride it every dy.

Love the AF on my Kodak...unfortunately that's the best I could get.

The handle will only move between to two positions AND the shaft that goes into the tank is too tall.

I just emailed a forum member to see if the one they had is still available.

Try Georgefix's motorcycle parts in Florida- he has lots of new petcocks to fit different suzukis. Don't waste your time with a used petcock.

That's the 450E/S fuel tap, exactly what I have on mine.

You're right that it only has on and reserve, the little flat head screw on the right there is the prime screw. Just undo it a couple of turns to let the carbs prime then do it up again.

Given you have an L then yes, they use a completely different one.

Boulevard Suzuki lists them at $75.13 new, which is about what I paid for mine from them last year.

When focusing on some thing close the macro feature must be engaged. On my Canon you turn on the "flower" mode, which means close up.

Georgefix is okay for petcocks. Just don't pay him to clean your carbs.

You should never buy a used one to begin with, unless maybe from a fellow forum member who might be able to tell at least whether or not it works as it should and fits your application. I only use non-vacuum petcocks with the off feature, no prime, but since it's non vacuum, it primes when I turn it on. And I never run without an inline filter, a little piece of insurance after rebuilding your carbs.

Are you thinking of wiredgeorge? I've bought gaskets and such off georgefix and never had an issue, heck they may be the same person for all I know but I wouldn't ever send my carbs to "wiredgeorge"

What you had originally was suzukis "old" style tap. They used those on a lot of bikes until '82 with the exception of '80 when many got that silly lever-less petcock. The "new" style from 82 on look more like your second pic but not exactly. Plus the new styles faced the opposite way of the old style, and on many of the bikes you can't use one for the other because you'll run into clearance issues with the frame or carbs.

Z1 sells the "new" style, and they're direct OEM replacements. Same manufacturer and all. But the last time I checked they didn't have a replacement for the old style, or at least one that faced the right direction.
The "new" style guys get off cheap, as they can pick up a brand new replacement for around $45. Old school guys get screwed as OEM from Zook is somewhere in the neighborhood of $85 last I shopped for one.
However, you may check MikesXS.com. Some models of the XS400/650 used an identical petcock (bolt spacing was correct and everything) and they may have a cheaper alternative.
Before you ask, the only model I've physically had my hands on and KNOW works was an '81 XS400 "Special"...

I wouldn't send my carbs anywhere- would cost me more than the bike!

Well, unfortunately for them, there have been more than a few people duped by this guy. He promises to clean and rebuild the carbs, which is fine, but then he also promises to be able to jet carbs for pods and a pipe or other performance mods without having the bike they're to go on there which is not possible. You might get it in the ballpark, but they're still going to need a fair level of tuning and a sync (which is something else he claims to do without the bike, and that's impossible). He prays upon newbies and guys who either don't have time to educate themselves or are unwilling to do so.
I've even heard some cases where he sent an entirely different set of carbs back to the person which unless there was some sort of "core exchange" type agreement in place, is outright theft in my book.

MikesXS also sells the vacuum-less ones should you desire to go that way, depending on fitment of mounting holes.
