    engine surging

Got a non running 82 gs550L in Nov. Broke down and rebuilt carbs over winter. Started bike the other day. Ran ok then engine would surge to about 4,000 rpm then back off. It did this 4-5 times in a row. Started it yesterday and it did the same thing. What could be causing this problem?

Did you replace the intake boot O-rings? Vacuum sync the carbs? Could the throttle cable be binding?

You might get lucky and discover a cracked carb boot or a not properly mounted airbox both things causing an air leak that could lead to the surging.
More likely the carbs are not fully cleaned.
Did you install the new o-rings when rebuilding?

I think I found the problem, The 2 inner airbox boots were not hooked up all the way. suckin air in through the bottom half. Thanks for the input Nessism. Btw I did put in new o-rings.
