Can anyone tell me OD size of the intake port on my 80 carbs?
Guys, the airbox I ordered for my 1980 1000 had some really small boots on it, didn't fit my carbs. I believe my carbs to be stock 1980 carbs, they measure 55mm on the OD on the intake side of the carb, the boots on the airbox measure 42 inside, am I wrong, or is the vendor?
Anyone else know the stock carb measurement on the OD on the intake side.Last edited by Guest; 03-25-2012, 10:16 PM.Tags: None

Have to find out what carbs you have first..they the ORIGINAL stockers or have they been replaced by a previous owner? hard to say who is wriong till you know for sure about the carbs I would say. Look at the end of the rack on number 4 ( or 1..cant remember for sure..) just below the top cap and see if theres some numbers there.. If so what are they? The numbers correspond with Suzukis codes for which bikes they were intended for.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Oh...your post said OD...did you mean the ID of the boots as they would slip over the carb throats???MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Yes, that is correct, I measured outside diameter of the carb throat (intake size of carbs), it measures 55mm, I searched here on the forums and found a couple instances where folks measured that same size. The boots that came on the intake box measured 42mm on the inside of the boots, so they obviously are not right, but I think the carbs are.
I guess I wasn't clear at first, I am wondering if anyone else knows the stock carb OD measurement like mine.
Thanks

Other than that, do they fit in the airbox holes correctly? Sounds kinda odd to me.....MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

What is the ID of the carbs? Your bike should have 34mm BS/CV carbs. The early 1000's have VM carbs, which take a smaller intake boot.Ed

Nessism, where do I measure that value? on the intake or engine side of the carbs? And if I do it on the intake side, are you talking about that little lip just inside of it, or down in the body.

Inside diameter, near the butterfly. Assuming they are CV type carbs like your bike originally came with.Ed

You have the right carbs. If the boots are too small they are could be the early type, for VM carbs. The entire cylinder head could be an early type, with smaller ports, so you might want to check to see how the carb boots align with the intake ports on the inside.Ed
