    Is this legal in Australia???

    G'day guys,

    Just wanting to know if this MUFFLER setup is okay in Australia, in particular NSW.

    Having two 17 inch reverse cone mufflers located UNDER the motor and frame area (in front of the rear wheel, basically where the centre stand sits.

    GS400 1979 model. It is different isnt it!

    Would appreciate any help before i go any further.

      Cant see why it would be legal Dave.

      So long as it meets noise regs which it should with dual mufflers.

                This doesn't totally answer your question, but it covers exhausts a bit:



                I seem to recall seeing somewhere that the mufflers must be in line or past the rear axle (??)......but I can't find any info on that.

                Bottom line will be if they want to fine you for it, they will on the basis that the exhaust system is not stock / similar to stock. And if it's louder than stock, then that's apparently enough by itself.
                Current:
                Z1300A5 Locomotive (swapped my Intruder for it), GS450 Cafe Project (might never finish it....), XT500 Commuter (I know - it's a Yamaha :eek:)

                Past:
                VL1500 Intruder (swapped for Z1300), ZX9R Streetfighter (lets face it - too fast....), 1984 GSX750EF, 1984 GSX1100EF (AKA GS1150)
                And a bunch of other crap Yamahas....

                  I did lots of trawling of ADR's during my build for stuff and worked out my K&N pods are perfectly legal, however I seem to recall somewhere that the exhaust needs to exit behind the rear most passenger on the bike...

                  However I've seen plenty of bikes on the road with underslung pipes like that... and yeah it does look cool

                  ADR's are not fun to read and are open to certain amounts of interpretation depending on who's reading them too...

                          I would like to have everything legal, the bike is currently registered so i cant see tooo much wrong with it.

                          Appreciate all your help.

                          I have pulled the bike completely apart down to the frame (remember this is my first project), will see what posts relate to painting the frame. It would not be a showroom bike, but I would like it to make the GS fans proud.

                              I seem to remember something like that here in US about having to have the muffler go back near the rear axle. It makes sense that, the powers to be, would think like that. I had a bike very similar to that years ago. If I can remember correctly the cones started turning up at an angle just under the shaft for the brake lever.
