Carb kits?
Hi all. Thanks for all the info I've gleaned from this site so far. I've got a question for those in the know with respect to carbs. I've got a set of '78-'79 vintage carbs of unknown parentage on my GS1000 and I am going to order up a set of carb kits from Z-1. Is there a difference between Suzuki and Kawasaki carbs of this era with regards to interchangeability of carb kits? I see there is a difference in the pictures of the kits and they list different jet sizes. I'm going up a size or 3 on the mains to hopefully improve the running with the Yosh header and I see Kaw kits come with larger mains and some with 2 different mains.
Any thoughts or experience to share? Thanks a bunch. SadsakTags: None

Please do yourself a favor and do NOT get "carb kits", even from our trusted suppler, Z1.
Post up a picture of your "unknown" carbs, someone will recognize them. If they are the VM carbs that actually belong on the bike, one of our members, Robert Barr, offers new o-ring kits through his site, cycleorings.com. The only other thing you might need would be bowl gaskets, you can get those at Z1.
About jetting, I don't know of generic carb kits that come with larger main jets. For you Yosh header, you might need more than "a size or 3" bump to compensate. You running a stock airbox or pods? If you have pods, add another 4-6 sizes to the mains.
Pictures first, let's ID the carbs.

Stock airbox, Yosh pipe as seen in my avatar. I'm thinking the kits would be the best way to go. These carbs sat out for who knows how many years and in addition to being filthy they are varnished up pretty good inside. I'd like to have fresh needles and seats so I know I'm only dealing with jetting and tuning issues and not faulty innards.
The carbs have what looks like the number 49010 on the flange.

Those are the stock VM carbs.
I just finished rebuilding a set of those carbs for a member here and the only parts I needed were fresh O-rings. Carb dip removes varnish and the stock Mikuni brass parts are higher quality than any aftermarket parts you can find.Ed

I push the buttons and that's what you get. If you want bigger pictures tell me how it's done.
Now; where do I get o-rings?

Thanks all. O-rings it is. Photobucket too I guess. Did the carb boot o-rings already. Just need to make a run to ND to pick up some carb dip. All I can find here is glorified lemon juice. It's just not gonna cut it.
I'm just glad there's more than one bike in the barn; no pressure to get this one done in a hurry.
