    Quick Jetting Q GS550L

    Hey Guys!
    I'm currently cleaning my Carbs for my 82 GS550L (Soaking right now) and I had a Q about jetting before I reassemble tomorrow. The mains right now are 92.5 which I'm guessing is stock. When I last ran it was falling on it's face at WOT 8k RPM and up(could be because the carbs were dirty or could be the jetting was wrong), bike pulled along very nice at 1/4-3/4 throttle just fine... WOT not so much... The PO did drill holes in the stock exhaust and after reading the plugs looked to have leaned it out some. I was planning on swapping the Mains for 102.5s and I want to leave the air box stock do you guys think that’s too rich, not enough? I'm hoping the proper jet size with the freer stock exhaust and the new Dyna S will help it zoom nicely. What are your recommendations guys?

    FYI Valves are spot on, and I’m replacing the O-rings/boots and sealing the intake when the carbs go in tomorrow although the o-Rings and Boots look new…

      Bass cliff has a chart of stock jetting on his site. Check your mains against that. As far as how many sizes to go up, I don't know. Pick up a few sets in higher size range - maybe 3-5 steps up. Then trial and error from there.

          If the intake is stock, it won't take that much bigger main jet, maybe one size, maybe a half size. Replacing the airbox with pods makes a much bigger difference.

                  Ahhh the Pods game, MY 750 responded very well with Pods, so does my B-12, easy to tune too. I read I have to buy the Dyno JEt kit for the Pods setup on the 550... If the performance is there I may have to save my pennies up for this route... Unless I can run Pods with just the mains and pilots swapped. I have allot of 115-140's sitting around from my B-12 tunning. I guess in the mean while I'll bump the mains up 1 cause I gottem and run it.
