Plug over Idle mixture screw
OKay I'm about to rebuild my carbs, my question is once I take out that plug that seals the idle mixture screws, what to I replace it with? I don't want to leave it open for a bunch of carp to settle in in over time. Any thoughts?sigpicMrBill Been a GSR member on and off since April 2002

You can leave it open. Carp don't generally swim to carburetors. Carp are much too large to fit anyway. Now those little ***** fish in the Amazon could fit, but I don't believe they swim to carburetors, either.
You could also make little wooden plugs by chucking a dowel in a drill and acting like it's a lathe.
I suppose you could make aluminum plugs that way too.
The rest of us leave them open, I have not heard of anyone having any carp get in there.

Maybe a dab of silicone or modelers clay. Something that will stay soft and be easy to peel out next time but I don't think you need to worry. Hundreds of us run around with nothing and it usually doesn't present a problem.
Good luck.

You think carp could be a problem? I bet they're nothing like the huge problems with my Mikuni CV crabs.

Jimmy, the crabs taste better.
If you have found a way to attract them to your bike, please share with us.

Wow, this is the first time I'm hearing this.
I found numerous posts a while back, and it seemed like you needed that plug otherwise you get some throttle transition problems?

The rubber plug over the pilot jet needs to be there.
The lead plug over the fuel screws that keep carp out are the ones under discussion.

Hi,
Look at page 13 (and following) in Mr. Nessism's carb rebuild guide and you will see the caps for the idle mixture screws and how to remove them. It's OK to leave them open. You'll want to adjust them once in a while. If they get a little carp in there, just spray them out with carp cleaner spray.

Thank you for your indulgence,
