The 850G has the reputation of being the smoothest GS out there, with the stock setup. I have pods on my 1000E and though they are dialed in now, I wouldn't want to do it again. I would recommend putting that money into getting what you have, running correctly.

I have them on my 79. The thing runs like a bat. And it looks sick with the empty space where the original box used to be.

I have the stock airbox on my bike. That thing runs like a BIKE. And it looks well (not sick) with the stock airbox in place.

It is also quieter, gets decent gas mileage and is MUCH easier to service.

There is no problem with the bike other than the last person to take the air box off had to use silicone the seal it up..and that was a weak seal with gaps...right now I have scrap air filter foam and hose clamps...so I need to get new boots and a box or change to the pods

You might get the stock parts for less than the K&Ns.

I guess you aren't "down" with "the lingo" that the kids are using while they listen to their "rock and roll" at the "malt shop". lol

Seriously though, what do you get for mileage? For example, how many miles do you get before hitting reserve?

I have a 4 into 1 Vance and Hines and it doesn't seem all that loud.

Oh, I understand most of it, but that doesn't mean I agree with it, especially in print.

To me, something that is "sick" is something that needs to be healed so it is better.

Mileage before hitting reserve depends on how I am riding, but typically between 175 and 190 miles.

Keep in mind that's with the fully-dressed 850G"K" in my signature. (click the link to see a picture)

As deafness sets in, eventually NOTHING seems very loud.

My son's bike has what we believe is a Jardine header that is not very loud.
Yeah, it's possible to do, just that so few actually bother, they just want to make NOISE.

I guess since you're going to judge without hearing it I'll go ahead and share the info anyway. I had an 80 850l with a stock exhaust.

With the vance and hines baffle wrapped in fiberglass there's very little difference. There's not a person on this board that likes a quiet bike more than me.

Fyi, sometimes people need to understand that it's ok to have a bike that isn't 100% stock. I have read the bible and it mentions nothing about eternal damnation due to pod intakes.

Watch out for Mr. Pessimism. The King of "only stock parts will work." but, "Don't use a torque wrench or the FACTORY valve adjustment tool."

You are now on the fast track to hell for sure!

                            Quick! ....... DUCK!!!
