    Dummy with a broken exhaust bolt

    Well I finally had to have a classic noob mistake. I had the fantastic idea to attempt to replace the exhaust seals. The first bolt came out easily, no issues. The second.....well not so good. After that I stopped. Luckily it sheared with some exposed so hopefully I can cut a slot and get it out.

    I will definitely be approaching the next 2 with extreme caution .

        That's what I am hoping as I don't have a torch or a welder. Since I am waiting for shims to arrive anyhow, my plan is to hit it with penetrating oil frequently over the next few days before I even try to move it again. That's the plan for the other 2 bolts as well.

        I have to imagine that the bike will still run normally even if I don't get it out. The exhaust pipe doesn't look like it would be moving anyhow.

          Maybe worth Trying MAPP gas too from a hardware store. Pretty easy to use.

            Agree. Heat helps break the corrosion bond holding the bolt. Heat the nub red hot and let it cool. Hit it with more spray and heat again.

              Here's one know one ever seems to know about ...Don't use more spray on something thats red hot ..(No disrespect Mr Nessism on your statement..)

              When ever you get something red hot and use more spray what happens..The spray just burns off..Right...

              Try getting a wax candle and stuff it in there ...The wax will wick into the threads and stay there once the bolt cools ...I do this sort of thing for a living old school trick that seems to have been lost over time ...

              I NEVER try to remove a ex bolt or nut with out heating it first ...I know a little late now to say ...

                Agree, do not spray red hot metal. If you read my suggestion I say to spray, heat, cool, spray again.

                  Left hand drill bits work great on this stuff sometimes. I've also taken out smaller screws with a pneumatic scribing tool.

                    After you get it out, changeover to studs.
