How will I know when my bike loses a carb?

I've read posts on here from people who say they are not running on every cylinder and most times it's either the carb not working properly or a coil going out. However, I haven't had the pleasure of experiencing this yet so I don't know what it will even sound like to start. Is there an easy and fairly safe way for me to duplicate this without harming my bike? I'd just like to know what I would look for if it ever happens to me.

sorry, couldn't help myself. But seriously now, you can duplicate the scenario by simply starting your bike up and pulling a plug wire from one or two plugs.

Yea I kinda opened myself for that one thanks.

But is it really that easy? No damage in the process?

Pull the plug lead off before you start it or else there will be some damage - to your head as you hit the ceiling when you get the electric shock . No damage to the bike though.

yep, just pull a plug wire off and take the bike for a spin. you will instantly notice the uneven running and lack of power.
if it happens unexpectedly while out riding you can tell which cylinder is not firing as the header will be colder than the other 3.
also, if a coil goes dead it will take out 2 cylinders

You don’t have to take it for a ride or unplug wires, just let it warm up and take a spray bottle and squirt a mist on the headers, if the water flash steams or jumps right off the cylinder is hot and firing.. if it slowly rolls off or just stays there, the cylinder is not firing.

Lose a firing cylinder, definite loss of power. It'll run, but the throttle won't be as responsive and you may have a quite a time keeping it running while it's idling, in the mean time, you'll be second guessing yourself as to "I don't remember it running like this, no power, could it be I lost a cylinder?"
