    Stripped Exhaust Manifold

    1979 GS 1000 L
OK, so I know the heads are not exhaust manifolds per se...
The new oil pan (due to my stripping the plug (OMG)) required removal of the exhaust. One bolt is already, I discovered, broken off in the head, several other's came out stripped. SO... does anyone have experience installing helicoils for this application?
    Perhaps... successful experience??

    Thanks

I drilled out five/eight broken bolts on my bike. I can try to find the thread later.

Personal preference ous not for coils. After drilling them out I replaced them with studs.

One tip to try when drilling out the and tapping the hole for helicoils is to use the flange it's self as a guide, it helps to keep things true. Helicoils work just fine for that repair.
