No fuel in bowl after rebuild

Recently rebuilt the carbs and I'm trying to sync them. I'm running into into a problem with getting fuel to the bowls. I have a remote tank ran to the fuel line and have the vacuum line blocked off. Fuel runs through the remote line yet none will flow into the bowls. Am I missing something? Did I miss a chapter in the rebuild sync guides? I'm lost...

Bike is a 1980 gs850L.

I'm scouring the forum now looking for an answer. Any help would be awesome!

Something wrong with your remote tank? I'd make sure the fuel has a straight downward path into the main carb fill nipple. No fuel filter either, which can restrict flow.

Tank is all good. No filter, hung from a broom. Straight path...

Just tried to blow into the fuel line. Nothing. Like its blocked.

Does the remote tank have Petcock? start from scratch, replace the line and see if you are getting fuel down the line before you attach it to the sync adaptor..

Yes. Tank has a ball valve. No sync adapters hooked up yet. I'm just trying to get the bike started. Fuel pours out of tank freely into fuel line. But then it just sits there.

something is clogged, I would take it apart

Did you rebuild the carbs using the tutorial linked in my signature? Replace all the various O-rings? Something is obviously wrong and it's very difficult to give you suggestions since we don't know what you did.

I had a shop handle it. Full rebuild with a dynajet stage 3 jet kit. New o-rings, gaskets, everything. And taking it back to the shop Isint really an option at this point. If I go to tear down the carbs, what would I look for? What would stop ALL fuel from reaching ALL bowls. It seems like that would be a big blockage...

Are you sure your fuel line is plumbed properly? Fuel feeding into the Tee right between the two center carbs?

I'd pull off the float bowls and make sure the floats are all free to move. Crappy aftermarket float bowl gaskets sometimes protrude into the floats living space and bind them up.

Sounds like you may be learning the hard way that it's best to just do your own work.

I learned that over the last 4 weeks waiting for them to be done.... Sigh. I'll pull them off and see what I can see.

You're perfectly smart to bring questions to this forum, but the first call you might want to make is to that shop you hired, to let them know what's going on. Maybe it's simple and they can fix for you, but if you tear into it without letting them know you won't have any recourse as far as getting some or all of your money back for work done wrong by them. The shop I took it too can burn to the ground a not a tear will be shed. The service was so bad, I filed a complaint with the BBB. So I would only call him to verbally bash him once more.

But on a happier note. Problem 1/2 solved. The float bowl (whatever that is with the mesh filter) was not allowing anything to pass. Luckily I had asked for the original parts back and swapped them back in. Though one was missing the needle insert so I was forced to use the "new" one. Now fuel flows freely and the bike runs fantastic. BUT, now my bowls overflow and spew gas from the filters. But only on #1 +#2. So I imagine I need to adjust the float bowl hight?

The float might be wrong, but the float might be bad as well. when you get it off give it a shake to see if you can hear gas inside, and/or submerge it in water and check for bubbles.

"The float bowl (whatever that is with the mesh filter)" The bowl bolts to the bottom of the carb body and houses the float and needle/seat If gas is flowing freely into the bowl then the needle isn't being pushed up by the float to seal off the flow, and there's a few different reasons for that, as you will determine when you take it apart. Have you visited Basscliff's site yet? Everything you need is there.

Looks like I need to brush up on my terminology. I am getting fuel to the bowls, and the float is moving correctly. There was nothing wrong with the needle valve, as i thought before. It looks like the float bowl height was not set correctly on all 4 carbs. Causing the needle valve to remain closed. A least that's what it's looking like on my end. I'm such a rookie when it come to carbs, so this is certainly a learning experience.
