That knob on the end of the choke cable

I have a set of 1150 carbs on my 80 gs 1100. The choke mechanism is different so I need to get an 1150 choke cable. Can I just attach the old knob at the handlebars that used to attach to the old cable end, to the new one?
    Hopefully somebody has done this

Havent really taken a good look at the one on the Cooley, but i "think" the knob is molded around the cable end at the factory. How would you get the knob off the old cable without destroying it?

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

It does look moulded & the diagram at Alpha Sport doesn't show any knob at the end that I can see.
