I'm a little confused by the picture, is the long bolt being used to push the flange tight against the head? Otherwise, what is the purpose of the long bolt and clamp and all?

Yep that's what it's doin. Before I take it off I am only guessing they used that for one reason. Which sucks.

is the other one stripped a bit ? you can drill and tap, and use a heli coil kit to fix it up

"One" of the keys to removing a broke bolt is to drill threw the bolt (if you have to drill..) one point not pushed enough here on the forum ...

If you drill that bolt, use a series of left-handed bits, moving up in size.

DO NOT USE AN EZ-OUT OR "EXTRACTOR" FOR THIS.

They just break and make things harder for you.

Plenty of penetrating oil, patience, some heat and lefty bits will get that bolt out.

I might try to chase the threads with a tap on that other hole before going with the helicoil, but YMMV.

Don't do anything with a drill just yet. Get someone to WELD a nut onto the remaining stud and I'll bet you it will turn right out. The heat from the welding "usually" breaks the bond between the stud and the threads in the head. Smack the stud with the new nut welded to it, several shots with som PB Blaster or similar and an inpact wrench and you'll be happy...VERY happy.

I'm not gunna drill yet. I hate doing that. I have planned on mig welding a nut to that bolt. There is a lot hangin out. Enough to get good contact threading a nut on and weld. wish me luck.

Also those ears on the headers are bent quite a bit. Curved from being torqued down. How crucial is it that I straighten them?

And before you weld a nut to it give it major heat treatment - RED HOT - it'll break down the rust that's holding it in there.

Good plan. I'll do that tomorro hopefully. Had to work a long day today. 17.5 hours so far n will be going home soon only to be back in 5 hours!
