Now to the problem. How on earth do you use the manual impact friver to get the bolt unfroze? I get the concept of the driver. I do not understand how you get a swing to hit the driver on the GS450. Any help is grwtly appreciated.

intake boot removal
OK. Ive had the intake boots off once and now one of the screws is locked in again. I know i should have gotten the allen head bolts but I figured since they came out no problem the first time it wouldn't be an issue.

If you mget one out, justb grip the boot and twist it tom the left and usually that will break the stuck one loose..if that doesnt work, then you gotta smack the impact some way..maybe add an extention to it( if it has the removeable end for use with sockets ) and then put the bit in a socket and weave it in there some how???MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

harbor freight
Its a cheap harbor freight one. Not sure if it does or doesn't. It doesn't seem to have any extension.

Does the end the bits fit into come off...so youll see a 3/8 drive for sockets and such?? If so, then add some extentions and a socket that fits the bit...then fish it in a manner that you can smack the driver with the hammer.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

You can even cheat and use a wobble extension.
Just hit it like you mean it with a good size hammer.

Alright I cheated with the wobble extension. All bolts removed without issue. Boots seemed supple when i replaced the carbs last time. However this time on better inspection the boots are pulling away from the metal flange on the left hand boot.
I look to be at a stand still now until i get the boots ordered and received. GRRRRRRRR. The boots weren't pulled fully loose but I think the gap probably grows as the engine heats up. THis would help explain my slow idle return, Skyrocketing idle when the engine gets heated up etc. If anyone knows the absolute cheapest place to get replacement intake boots please let me know. I might as well change them both now and avoid any future issues with this area.

If you got access to a mig welder and have tried every other option and fail weld a bolt to the head of the other just be careful. I know it's not the best idea but it works when everything fails

And toss those nasty JIS Phillips screws. They are not American Phillips screws and our bits do not fit them correctly.
