A fairly good alternative is buying just mufflers and having them welded on to your headers under the heat sheild. I put a pair of emgo's on my 79 850 and they looked 'almost' stock but were louder than stock so a friend put the whole system on his 79 750 and loves them. They sound great and have removable baffles so you could actually play with the sound a bit depending on the wrap you were using. Best thing the mufflers only cost $55 a piece and you can buy them from almost anywhere. Mine came from JC Whitney.Rob

I had these stubs made from a piece of Canadian Tire exhaust piping welded on to a set of header pipes that had rotted mufflers.A thank you to azr for giving me the pipes I used.
Have a set of long Dunstalls I got in a bike deal.
Think I've got a pretty good solution to the problem.
http://www.dimecitycycles.com/ Have the same ones here for $54.95US.

I talked to a guy at Popham in April who is making the 4-2 headers for loads of bikes, including the 750 and the 1000. He's making them in stainless and the polished up ones looked pretty good. He had some mounted on a 1000 and they don't look like original - they look neater fitting and 'more parallel'. I've got a card somewhere and if I find it I'll post his details. I think he was knocking them out for mid £200s, silencers extra.
Failing that this might be worth a phone call:

75 PC50 - the one with OHV and pedals...
75 TS100 - being ridden (suicidally) by my father

They look good too, thanks for the link, I have an Arrow on my Triumph scrambler (It came with it on) and it used to be shiney but as I've used it it has lost all of its shine and will have to come off and some serious attention given it.sigpic
Don't say can't, as anything is possible with time and effort, but, if you don't have time things get tougher and require more effort.

Hi, can anyone tell me if an exhaust from a GS550L will fit my GS750 (1978 vintage)?
Desperate to find a 4 into 2 system, but really struggling.
Cheers
Rich

Doona - I am in the same position.
In my dreams I want to cut them open. Fix them up. Sandblast the insides, seal them up again and then re-chrome. See: My GS1100G Blog - Exhausting Pipes. Still a hugely expensive option.
Someone here put me onto ebay Germany and there must be a load of GS riders out there as they have stuff we don't see on UK and USA ebay like this: Exhaust Pipes.
And if you want to do it yourself try this: Make your own muffler. But these yanks have all the kit, the workshops and so on. Not so easy if you live in a UK terraced house or some such!

Hi,
Just taking a little stroll around eBay. Below are some 4-n-2 and some 4-n-1 exhausts. Were you looking at that $49 GS550 exhaust? I don't think that will fit your 750, different cylinder spacing.

Cheers Basscliff, unfortunately they are all the wrong side of the pond for Londonboards and me. Postage costs would be outrageous.
Londonboards: cheers will have a look at the German eBay site

There is one here in France ( not mine) but I don't know how much it would cost to ship over to the US?

cheers londonboards, Ive found one on their website for a GS750E (1981-82) I'm assuming that it will fit (with some minor tinkering)
Ive sent them an email asking them to confirm what's included (down pipes etc) & the postage to the uk (coz that seems really cheap!)
I'll let you know the result
