The little holes are not evenly-spaced enough to make me believe they are "factory", the large hole is DEFINITELY not stock.

so even the little holes are not stock, the bike sounds good, and you dont really notice the hole unless your really looking cause its at the angle towards the ground. what do these bikes sound like with out the modifications cause mine sounds really good, kinda ninja like but not at the same time

The only stock hole is the one in the middle.

not ever really looking at another stock 550 exhaust i wanted to ask the question that had been in the back of my mind, never would of thought that the little holes where from the p.o as well

As I mentioned, if it were done at the factory, all the holes would have been evenly-spaced.

The L mufflers and some of the later E bikes had some extra holes at the back. Depending on the bike, sometimes the center hole was open, other times only the outer holes, some other bikes had them all open.

This is on my wife's 850L

Previous owner of this exhaust drilled holes in the center. I braised them closed and afterwards the bike sound better and ran better.

Totally agree about the large hole and Steve is probably also right about smaller holes but I have seen the smaller holes done like that before on GS's and other bikes too. Have also seen it neatly reversed and a ring welded back on but can't find it in the search
