A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hi, I recently picked up a 79 GS1000L. The bike didn't have an air cleaner case. The PO just had an air filter connected to the air box. Is the air cleaner case an essential part for proper air flow or can I get by with out one? Will it make the bike run lean with out it? It seems like the are pretty hard to come by and can be expensive. Thanks

Hi,welcome to the site.Yes,it is best to keep the entire system as engineers designed it.The bike will run best that way.Keep an eye on EBay.

Thanks, Any other models use the same air cleaner case as the 79 GS1000L?

Any 78-79 GS1000 air box will work.. E or L model..
L model front air boxes just have chrome end caps added.

I'm guessing you are looking for a rear air box and lid.

I think for the rear box even an 80 GS1000 box would work.

Hi Mr. nFrog,

What part(s) do you need? I'm guessing #4 and the associated hardware?

Yes, any changes to the intake system will require jetting changes. The airbox assembly meters a specific amount of air into the system. Any changes will throw off the air/fuel mixture and require a jetting change in the carbs.

There is a parts cross-reference procedure on my little website. Use it to see what bikes use the same part numbers. A lot of times Suzuki used the same part across several models/years.

And for even more fun, let me dump a TON of information on you and share some GS lovin'. :D

I just stopped by to welcome you to the forum in my own, special way.
