    Jetting question

I have a 83 450L that I just recently got a 2-1 header and slip on muffler for. I might end up putting pods on it late down the road.

My question is when I "jet" it, what part do I need? Pilot, main, needle?

Any idea of a good size to start with?

    Thanks

Usually just the main needs to be changed. The pilot mixture can be adjusted a bit with the adjustment screw, the needle can be lifted a bit by installing thinner shims above the clip.

What size? To start with, a couple sizes bigger than what is in there now. As you make more changes, you will need larger jets.

The main says its a 45. How much higher should I go?
Where's a good place to look for the jets?

Let's hope that's the pilot jet! take a look at this Basscliff chart

I guess the FIRST thing you need to do is to learn what is what in your carbs.

The jet with a 45 on it is your PILOT FUEL JET. You will likely not need to change it

Your stock MAIN jet is 115. How much to change it? That depends on how much more the pipes and pods can flow.

You said you are starting with pipes, so add two or three sizes (120 or 122.5). Later, when you go to pods, you might need another two or three sizes, taking you to 125 or 130. The only way to tell is to change the jet, then do plug chops to see what the spark plugs are telling you.

Where's the best place to get jets from? I looked at one site and the jet was only $3 but shipping was $10. Seems a little steep for that.

              Z1 Enterprises at $1.74 each.
