One carb bowl has no passages

Cleaning my carbs I was running the squirt tests like in the tutorial and on one of the two bowls it would not work.

I then tried running a slim pin to unclog the passage but the two holes do not meet on this particular bowl.

No pics but I am talking abot the one that drills straight down from the gasket area and the angled hole at the bottom of the bowl


It's as if they had not drilled down far enough when they machined the bowl on this carb.

Is this normal? There is no way this carb was getting fuel from the enricher because fuel was not getting to the tube area.

So that is why the left side was running much much cooler at startup....

How did this bike go for 30 years like this?

I guess I just have to drill it down from the gasket area until I reach the other passage.... (edit scratch that)

I looking with a good light and better glasses I can see on the good bowl that the hole is a jet.. tiny hole. I dont think I can replicate that on the other bowl.

The "bad" bowl has nothing. No hole...

Can you tell if drilled hole down side of bowl is deep enough to intersect with angled bottom hole (if it had been drilled) ? The angled hole then has little drilled plug pushed in- two manufacturing operations were missed by QC apparently. Personnally, I doubt the importance of the size of this hole in the plug as it just allows fuel during enricher use.

Maybe look for a new bowl. The orifice in the bowl must limit fuel flow into the choke circuit. I'd be hesitant to modify the design.

Some of those passages have tiny holes in them to limit fuel flow. They are usually accompanied by pickup tubes that are unrestricted.

Not much of a problem if both the bowl and the tube are restricted, but if both are wide open, the "choke" circuit will run REALLY rich.

By the way, this is one reason that I will soak the bowls in Berryman's, along with the rest of the carb parts, then squirt the passage with carb cleaner spray and a blast of air.

Problem solved because I just grabbed a bowl from my parts bike.
