Stuttering at takeoff when engine is hot

Hi there. I have an '81 GS 450T - cleaned the carbs recently and got everything going, but after riding for about 20 or 30 min when the engine is sufficiently hot, it starts to bog down and stutter when I give it gas from a standstill. The air pilot screws WERE about three turns out, which I know is a lot but its the only way I could get the idle semi-normal (idles around 2,000rpm when the engine is warm). Do I need to re-jet my carbs? I did not sync my carbs after putting them back together either. What's the best course of action?

Thoroughly clean the carbs and replace all of the O-rings.

Re-jetting is not the way to go at this point.

The 450T is a CV-fed bike, so I think by "air pilot" you must be referring to the air/fuel idle mixture screw. 3 turns out would normally be a little rich, but you might be compensating for an air leak

However, adjusting those isn't going to do much for you unless you synch (did you do a bench synch?) AND figure out why your hot idle is so high.

If you didn't replace those o-rings. Follow Eric's suggestion and do so as soon as you can.

Ok, I'll give it another shot (and yes, I did mean idle mixture screw, thanks for correcting me). I replaced the O-rings in the carbs but did not replace the intake boot rings, which I'll do this time. Found a good tutorial on bench synching carbs on youtube, so I'll give that a try. Thanks for the input

Intake boots and o rings. High idle at temp is usually the sign of a lean condition. An air leak in the boots will cause that.

Mine did the same thing. After proper carb cleaning, o rings, boots and o rings, she purrs like a kitten.
