A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My 1982 gs850gl only got 110 miles before I had to turn it on reserve is this the norm?

How much gas did you put in it after it went on reserve? You should be getting 40+ mpg.

The L models have small tanks. If you can only put about 2.5-2.8 gallons in it when it hits reserve, then that's about right.

Never mind how many miles before you have to switch it onto reserve, what fuel mileage are you getting?

I run my 80 850G with a 5.8 gallon tank set on reserve and I can go around 200~210 miles on a tank before I have to fuel up. With the roads I normally ride on, I get 43~45 MPG out of it. Your fuel tank is smaller so you won't be able to go as far especially without it being on reserve.

Not really, but we need a BUNCH more information to be accurate.

My wife's bike (same as yours) has gone between 85 and 160 miles before switching to reserve.

The 85-mile tank was at about 75-80 mph, on the freeway, into a headwind of about 15-20 mph.
Later, on that same trip, with no adjustments to the bike, she did close to 160. Speed was 55-60, in the hills of eastern Kentucky, no noticeable wind.

Please tell us:
How fast are you riding?
How long since you have done basic maintenance on the bike?
Are you riding mostly in town or out on the road?
Do you granny-shift while slowly accelerating?
Do you accelerate briskly?
Do you drag race EVERYBODY at every stop light?

.

i get 200km ( 140 odd miles ) till i have to flick it onto reserve but thats with a 83 GSX750ES local riding.

Well I haven't adjusted the valves yet, but I have checked the charging system and also cleaned out the carbs really well, also I do about 60 mph but it has been a little windy around here in ky lately
