Measuring float height in GS400 carbs?

    Hi-

I'm trying to set my float height on the carbs on my '78 GS400. The manual I have tells me what height to set it to. But where are they measuring from ? From the top of the flange/lip that runs around the edge, or from the surface where the gasket sits? And if its the latter, do I remove the gasket to measure?

    Thanks for your advice!

Measure from the gasket surface without the gasket in place.

Like this...from on top of the little raised rib that runs around the carb base...

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.
