    fuel leaking out exhaust

    So I put my 82 GS400 on the center stand (slightly down hill)and after a few min noticed fuel leaking out the exhaust. This didn't happen when it was on the side stand.

    Sure it's fuel instead of condensation?

    If it's fuel, then you also have fuel in the crankcase as well. NOT good. Either a float is stuck and/or your petcock is dumping fuel down the vacuum line.

        No fuel in the vacume line.. So I'm guessing stuck float... Which makes sence now that I think about it as I bought the bike recently and it had been sitting for a while and had bad gas and rust in the tank. Bike stalled out on me and so I pulled the tank, cleaned and relined it. Cleaned out the pet and found crap in it that got though the broken strainer.. Replaced the strainer as well. So some stuff prob did get into the carb.

        So, I guess ill have to pull the float chambers out, remove and clean the floats, squirt carb cleaner into it and dump some sea foam or other intank carb cleaner into the tank. And do an oil change??

          At minimum. I recommend a full carb rebuild with fresh O-rings. Check Basscliff's site for info.

            Previous owner had the carbs rebuilt and cleaned few months ago. Ill try just cleaning the floats out carb cleaner in the tank and spray. If that doesn't do it ill do a rebuild.

                No $hit. Wish I had a nickel for every person that short cutted the carb rebuild and wound up having to do it twice...or three times.

                  Here we go again, a stuck float, or anything else in the carburetor, cannot possibly fill the crankcase with fuel if the petcock is working correctly, and is not left in the PRI position.

                  Did you even find out if the crankcase is full of fuel?

                    Maybe you should check petcock for correct operation while seafoam attempts a cure. Most likely,the crap that was in your tank has found a new home and will be difficult to dislodge.

                      I had cleaned out the petcock the other day. Realiized as I was putting the carb bowls back on after cleaning them and the floats out with carb cleaner that I had left it on prime... Opps. Needed an oil change anyway. All is well now, just letting the bike run a bit to clear that carb cleaner out as its running at a very low idle now.
