I guess they are the non-washer style. gs450sjip

Looks exactly the same as the pic you posted. I have mine set at 2 1/2 turns out and the bike runs great. Once i get my tank patched i will do a proper colortune and vaccum sync on it and I expect it shoul really run. Great bikes.

No washers in mine either... and exactly the same as that pic.
The spring is there to keep tension and prevent it moving I believe although I could be wrong.1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

Just an update, I had a set back. I dropped a carb removing it from the dip, ugh! It snapped off the enrichener pick-up tube. I am waiting on a replacement body I purchased from ebay. As soon as I get all the pieces again, I'll reassemble and install. gs450sjip

Bugger! Hopefully you don't have to wait too long and can get back into it soon...1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

Just an update, I received the replacement carb body, it is exactly like the original. It also does not have a spring on the mixture adjustment screw. So , I can't say it's missing, that's three I have without springs. Doesn't seem to be an issue, the screws have tension on them without the springs. It's in the carb dip now. I may replace the valve cover gasket while the tank is off. Most likely next week before I restart it.

Weird... I have never seen nor heard of them without springs before! Maybe the earlier revisions didn't have springs? Anyway... good luck! Looking forward to the result...1982 GS450E - The Wee Beastie

It's back together and there are changes. I have the floats at 27mm, the mixture screws are set at 2 turns out. The carbs are clean, all passages are clear. It starts quickly, without choke, then settles into a smooth even 2800-3000 rpm ''idle". It stays there for awhile then slowly slows to 1200 rpm and the enrichener is needed to keep it from stalling. After is warms, I tried to rev it some which it does, but it hangs at the fast speed around 3000 rpm, it does not return to lower speeds easily. I am going to check the slack or absence of, in the throttle cable/twist grip. The exhaust does not burn your eyes as before, so it seems leaner. This is with the air filter and airbox lid back in place. Right now, I'm thinking/hoping it is a mechcanical issue, binding throttle, (I tightened the angle iron gang plate after I tightened the top covers and cable bracket) or not enough slack in the cable, lube the cable etc.. Once I get a consistant idle, I can adjust the mix screws.
The cam cover leak was fixed with Loctite 518 anerobic sealer without a gasket. I did not have much time to fiddle with it yesterday. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

It is good that you have changes but what you are now describing is a lean condition, a hanging idle is a sign of a air leak somewhere.1984 GS1100GK newest addition to the heard

Yes, I agree, it is a possibility. I will check for leaks, It did not rev as before, seemed sluggish without power. I did hear a odd , very slight, popping or spitting sound on occasion. It was never there before, so I think I'll loosen all clamps, try to reposition the carbs, then retighten them.
