    Exhaust Bolt Torque Settings

    Anyone know what the torque settings are for the manifold bolts on an 1983 GS1100SD Katana

    Not wanting to strip the head and I am not happy with the feel of a couple bolts as I am tightening them

    There is a formula for calculating this but the easiest way to find out would be reviewing the torque tables in the OEM manual

      If you are using old bolts torque specs will do you no good, the bolts get very weak with all the heat cycles.

        if you dont like the way they feel , the might be stripping out , not even new bolts will help, i use timeserts to fix mine and make sure the bolt are not too short

          Torque spec is in the Suzuki service manual. Look in the Torque Table in section 2.

            Obviously proper torque is important, but especially in this application, more than following a torque number is the importance or cleaning each hole very well, and with the exhaust removed, chasing a bolt in and out a few times with some lube or anti seize to assure it threads in easily and you are confidant the threads are solid. Trying to crank even a new bolt into a crusty hole (thats gross) is going to be a disaster.
            Exhausts dont always go on nice and strait and even too. I always make sure I can push by hand or ratchet strap the pipe into the hole and put the bolt in with no tension as opposed to trying to crank the bolt and header pipe in as one. Instant cross thread or stripping.
            Get all of them started nicely, 3 to 5 threads then push each pipe in as you slowly and evenly draw them tight. When you are sure its all strait and the bolts are gently seated nicely, then its torque table time.
            I dont know your level of experience, sorry if this all sounds obvious to you. lol Just my experience.
