    Leaking gas near float bowl/gas inlet

    OK, so I finished my rebuild on the 82 1100GL and got it all back together. Last night I posted on the 4 cylinder forum that it wouldn't start. I rechecked all my connections and got it fire up this evening, then the trouble started.


    Engine sounded good and it ran well, but there is a constant leak of gas from the #4 carburetor (right side) at the point indicated on the picture below. It is a pretty constant leak that falls from the screw on the bottom of the bowl.

    It seems to be coming from the point where the gas line goes into the carburetor. There was no gas higher than that and there was no gas on any of the other carbs.

    I didn't do anything to the carbs but take them off the bike, store them and put them back on.

    Any ideas what I need to do?

    It might be as simple as a dried out o-ring at fuel inlet- maybe it will swell up . Or get new ones from cycleorings.com to be safe

      Since you didn't do anything to the carbs, chances are you have some dried up orings, if one went bad how long till the others follow. If they are the originals they needed to be replaced in the worst way. Like Tom said, order them from cycleorings.com, they come in a nice little kit with all the right orings. Now that you need to pull the carbs again, go ahead and do a complete rebuild, dipping, cleaning, gaskets, float needles and orings. Inspect all your rubber parts as well, carb boots etc and replace anything that is questionable. You want a tight air seal when it comes to your carbs.

New SS fasteners through out. Rebuilt carbs, new EBC clutch springs and horn installed. New paint. Motor runs strong.

        It was a dried out/smashed o ring. I replaced it with a close size and it is working right now. I ordered a set of rings and will rebuild the carbs onvce they arrive.

        BUT IT RUNS! YAY!
