Making your own gaskets
I really want to try this so today I went to Harbor Freight and got a 9pc. hollow punch set for $8.00, then I went to Advance Auto and got a sheet of gasket material for $7.00. I'll be using this for at least the bowl and upper thingy gaskets for my VM carbs but I hope I got the right/good stuff? I got FelPro Karropak tan fiber sheet 36"x12"x1/32" for sealing oil, coolant and gasoline. Think it will be the right choice? Thanks!http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...ial#fragment-1Tags: None

Don't bother making the top gaskets. 99% of the bikes I have seen have had them missing and nothing bad happens.
Your gasket material will be fine for the bowl gaskets.79 GS1000S

You may want to sharpen those punches. A small fine grained Dremal drum sander applied to the inside bore ought to do. Just polish, as your not trying to reshape them.

I think that material should be fine. I used Felpro rubberized gasket material but can't say it's better than that other stuff.
BTW, a paper hole punch is the perfect size for the screw holes. A hole punch will work too of course.Ed
To measure is to know.
