which carb for vacuum to petcock?

reason I ask, mine is on #3 cyl. since I got it? Should it be on #2/what difference would it make?

Since yours is a '79, I think it has VM carbs, and I think the vacuum hose goes to number 3.
Read line item #27 and 30 here.

The nipple on carb #3 is a vacuum tap for the fuel valve.
Carb #2 is a vent is for the #1 & #2 float boles.
Carb #4 is a vent is for the #3 & #4 float boles.
I learned this the hard way.

When i doubt you can stick the hose to you lip and hit the starter button...youl feel it suck on the end of it or not. you want to be on the one that you feel the suction.

MY carbs were set up 1-3-2-4 from left to right.....
by PO. When you try to start it, hold your finger over the petcock end of vac line.
If you fell the vac, you got it right.

I was thinking the same thing on the carb arrangement in the rack...look at the mixture screws. The 1 and 2 point to the left side of the bike and 2 and 3 point to the right. That would soon become obvious as soon as you started tuning the bike.
