pilot fuel screw tip broken

The oring tore the other day and I got my replacement from Robert today but got a "close" replacement from dealer to run it, so I just noticed their replacement was leaking, went to put Bob's oring in and noticed the tip was missing? I need a new screw and even a part# since the kids at dealer are somewhat clueless...also wondering about where the missing tip is? I would rather not pull the carbs....

Z1 sells them and they are not clueless.... The tip is probably stuck in the tiny fuel passage blocking it.

Yea I do have scribes, does that tip come up thru the bore as to be able to "push it down"?

what does nla stand for? I called dealer and he said he can't get them?

It's probably sticking up into the bore a tiny bit.

I pulled the carb and stripped it down. I'll take the body tomorrow to a friend and see if he can get that tip removed, what a pita

Take a long enough metal rod that will reach down the slide tower to the little hole in the back throat of the carb and sharpen it to a tiny point. Stick the point of the rod in the hole ( or on top of the tip thats stuck if you can see it ) and give it a few persuasion taps with a tack hammer or a heavy wrench. 9 out of 10 times they pop right out. I did a set of carbs a member sent me that he had broke 3 of them off. Took me 5 minutes to clear all 3...done. Look at Cliffs Mega Welcome...think theres pic there.

Got it! Oh yea..I'm a happy camper again! Took about 10 min.of fussing around after I got a fluorescent magnifying light on an articulating arm from Harbor freight for $30.00 and a pic set for $3.00..money well spent..I guess?
I say "working in the dark, without a magnifier of some sort" and I went over to Z1 and got a set of new pilot screws,springs and seals for $20.00 which are made longer with a knurled portion for easier adjustment? Now I should be ready to get this back together! Man, what a curveball! I did notice the o-rings on the new screws are a slightly smaller thickness than the new ones I got in Bob's kit. Also looks like a couple of the other tips were soon to follow, so I'm glad I renewed all 4.

I'm glad we could help. After seeing forum members struggle to find these parts, we special ordered a couple of batches from Keyster in Japan. They are really for the KZ1000 - but both bikes run very similar Mikuni VM carbs. The longer screw head is really a better choice anyway - it makes it far easier to adjust while on the bike.

We don't get many visitors, so it's nice to know there's GS owner in the area. Hopefully you'll be able to ride out to our place one day.

In the summer, you'll find a number of vintage Japanese bike riders are the Log Cabin in Macedon on a Wednesday night - usually a big turnout of vintage cars, and some bikes.
