V&H 4 in 1 - Are these the wrong pipes?

When I bought this bike it had some very rusty original pipes, and these newish looking Vance and Hines 4 in 1's came with it in a box.

The header fits fine, but none of the brackets in the back lined up with anything, so I made my own.

Now the real issue. The pipe sits right under the brake pedal and restricts the travel of the rear brake pedal. When I tighten it up enough to not bottom out on the pipe, the brake drags. When I set it where it doesnt drag, it doesnt brake very well.

    Any advice or opinions?

Not the wrong pipes just drag pipes. They will scrape on tight right hand turns and as you have discovered, you will need to modify your brake pedal to go around the pipe some or dent the pipe where the pedal goes over. There are threads around here on the subject, just have to try a couple different searches and dig a little.

That bike needs stock pipes to complete the look...NICE skunk!

Thanks FosG8, yep i didnt search because i thought it may be unique. I will do that later this evening.

Thanks JWhelan, It is actually a little rough but I am working on all the mechanicals of getting it tuned, fork seals etc. before I tear it all down to paint the frame and tank etc.

I love these 78's because I used to own one just like it...but I never did like the looks of the stock pipes,, just personal taste or bad taste i guess.

Well I have searched on the site in several different categories, and the only info I have found is that these pipes tend to scrape in righthand turning.

I didnt run across any tips or tricks on how to make the rear brake have more travel with these V&H drag pipes.

Is there anyone on here that is looking for drag pipes that has a set of 4 in 1's that dont interfere with the rear brake?

            Contact kochic.
Marc visits the site occasionally and runs the same pipe on the street.

Thanks Steve. I read the thread. I guess I will just "dent" the pipe.
