They're completely different jets and the N151.067 won't fit.

I found somewhere that clearly listed the overall dimensions of the jets (length, diameter, etc.) but I can't find it now.

It might be in the Sudco PDF, so have a look on there and see if it is. That's a very helpful PDF to have to work out what jets are what etc.

Here is what my 17.5 jet looks like

      Hello,
I got out a magnifying glass and it definitely says "17.5" on the side of the body tube. There is a funky character before that, might be Japanese.
Here is the actual one from the left side:

I think that the Sudco PDF you are referring to is this: http://www.sudco.com/CatalogJPG/123.jpg .

If so, it's listing the 17.5 and the 45's as similar in diameter and length.
The body\tube of the 45 seems larger though. The big difference is that the 17.5 with the side holes don't seem to have the center hole at the tip!
That seems to be a big deal if pulling gasoline from a different part of the bowl!
Do you think that they should be replaced in pairs - so that both bowls are similar?
Let me know what you guys think I should get.
      Thanks,
      George

Yep, that's what I was referring to.

That 45 is definitely, 100%, not going to fit.

The little symbol you're referring to is to indicate it's Mikuni brand.

The VM22/210 does have the hold down the centre as well as the bleed holes on the sides.

If you get another stock 17.5 without the bleed holes, that'll be fine just to replace the one, but if you try the VM22/210, replace both so they're the same.

          argh. does this help?
it's from you-know-who's library. No headings in my cropped picture, but you can see the 45's and that is pilot jet #
and...Is it possible it had the wrong jets in the first place? I hate to say that but there it is. 17.5 is for 250's...?

          go down the page.

Aaaaah thanks for reminding me! I owe BassCliff a list of *correct* factory carb spec's from my factory manual.

Don't rely on that table, it is not 100% correct for the 450's and you will notice the lack of years in there too.

The '83 and onwards use the other pilot jet style I believe, whereas the '80 -82 are definitely the 17.5 pilots.

Trust me, I spent many hours looking into this when I looked at re-jetting my carbs, and if you have an '80 - 82 450 with the stock BS34SS carb's, you need the VM22/210 style pilot jets without the bleed holes, and 17.5 is the factory standard size.

Can only find the 17.5's with bleed holes..

That is what I ordered a pair of from seller = Nichecycle on E-bay.
Because I could not find any 17.5 solid, non-bleed VM22/210's anywhere.

Pete, do you remember where you acquired your non bleed VM22/210 17.5's from?

What would using the 17.5's with bleed holes performance-wise change? Would I just have to make adjustments to the air\fuel mixture screws during the idling?

Yep, that's what I was referring to when I said Suzuki appears to have gotten Mikuni to make some changes

The only way you'll get the non-bleed type is to order them from a Suzuki dealer using the Suzuki part number.

My non-bleed type are the stock ones that were in it from the factory and the only Mikuni ones I could buy anywhere other than Suzuki were the VM22/210 bleed type.

I haven't compared same size bleed to non-bleed, so if there is any difference in theory it would make it richer.

If there is a difference, best case is the mixture screws will resolve it, worst case you will need to go down a size to the 15's.

Let us know how you go.

                  Will do..parts are incoming now.

I picked up a gallon of Berryman's carburetor chem dip for the soak for $18 and have the pilot jets , all new o-rings, and all new stainless socket head screws on order for the BS34SS.

All that said, the performance now should be much better in theory than before.
I'll post the results when I get it assembled, as it is single digits F here now, so will wait until at least 40 degrees to fire it up.
